Seven Magic Mountains Las Vegas Art

Las Vegas – an Art Lover’s Dream?

Las Vegas – an art lover’s dream?

When you say the words, “Las Vegas,” most people immediately think of a wild weekend away. Gambling, dining, nightlife and shopping – Sin City can be a partier’s paradise. But can it also be the ideal place for art lovers?

A growing number of Las Vegas revelers are choosing to forego (or at least tone down) their wild time in favor of a more cultured experience. While the days of the yard long slushy margarita may not be behind us, a whole new arts and culture scene is popping up, both on the Strip, downtown and in the nearby desert. The city’s growing creative and digital classes are crying out for more artistic resources – and Vegas is always ready to please.

Whether you are staying in a hotel on the strip, a Las Vegas condo or just swinging through town for the day, check out these artistic options. Most are located steps (or a short drive) from the best accommodation options in the city, including Sky Las Vegas.

Seven Magic Mountains
Gianfranco Gorgoni, in collaboration with the Nevada Museum of Art

Head 20 minutes south of Vegas into the surrounding desert and you will find the Seven Magic Mountains sculpture. Unveiled by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone in May, 2016, this vibrant piece of art is worth every minute of your drive. Stacks of limestone rocks (to draw from the local mountains) have been painted in bright colors, perfect for a photo op.

CityCenter Las Vegas

CityCenter is so much more than a collection of Las Vegas condos, hotels and shops. One of its founding principles is to include as much art as is possible, and so the complex is filled with sculpture and painting at every turn. The art pieces are mainly located in Aria, Vdara, Crystals and the Mandarin Oriental. Some of the world’s most important artists are represented here – don’t miss this free experience.

The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art

The Bellagio is one of Las Vegas’s most famous hotels, and it is home to a remarkable gallery. Currently hosting “Town and Country: From Degas to Picasso” (an exhibition borrowed from Museum of Fine Arts Boston), the gallery also presents cutting edge art from around the world.

Downtown Container Park

The ultra trendy shipping container gets the Vegas makeover with the Downtown Container Park. 43 containers have been stacked together to create a ‘shopping mall/ art gallery space perfect for displaying all kinds of modern pieces. Eat, drink and shop in the shadow of a 55 foot tall praying mantis sculpture, a statue that pays homage to the Burning Man art gathering held annually in the nearby desert. During the day this is a large family attraction with a 3 level play house in the middle of the park! Bring the kids they will have a blast and do not forget to bring them past the on site toy store!
